Food is taking over the world

Stan and I walked around downtown Beijing on Tuesday, near Tian'anmen Square. We came across a street full of brand new buildings and stores, but they were all empty! Except for a couple restaurants here and there.

While walking, Stan and I decided it would be nice to get some munchies. A walk is always better with some food! So we stopped in the nearest "food" store and this is what we saw! Tons of snack foods and little items, all for a minimal fee! Heaven!

With snacks in hand, Stan and I continued walking along the different streets, him eating peanuts covered in some sort of milk and sugar coating, me taking pictures of anything and everything.

If you couldn't tell, this was the window display in a tea shop where I purchased a tin of Jasmine tea for my mom.
At 6:00p.m. Stan and I met up with a daughter and father duo that we had met on our cruise down the Yangtze River. We were supposed to be joined by another couple we had met on the cruise as well for supper, however we never got in touch with them. The four of us ate at the "buffet place" Stan and I love so much, except it was a different location. This chain was on Wangfujin - a popular shopping street in Beijing. We all fed our stomachs quite a lot then parted ways. Here is a sample of some food from the buffet:

Stan and I decided to take a stroll along Wangfujin as we had eaten so much we felt like exploding and because I wanted to take pictures of all the food at the outdoor food "market." I have never seen so many interesting foods - from desserts such as candied fruit (literally fruit covered in caramelized sugar) to prairie oysters (yes - bulls balls). Being the lover of food that I am and more recently obsessor of taking food photography, I had to get a picture of each booth set up. Enjoy! And don't ask me what all of this stuff is because I really don't think I could tell you.

Needless to say, Stan and I didn't sample any of these somewhat dubious food items, but we watched quite a few others chowing down.
